Description
RO Membrane Brine Seals (4040 & 8040)
High-Performance Flow-Direction & Bypass Prevention Seals
ID: 2631 (4040) | ID: 2632 (8040)
Product Overview
The Industrial RO Brine Seal is a critical “U-Cup” or “V-Lip” gasket engineered to eliminate internal bypass flow within a reverse osmosis pressure vessel. Mounted on the exterior feed-end of the membrane, this seal acts as a physical barrier that forces 100% of the feed water through the spiral-wound membrane leaves. Without a high-quality brine seal, water will simply flow around the outside of the element, leading to immediate loss of filtration efficiency and high permeate TDS.
Engineering Applications
-
Universal Filtration Support: Mandatory for all 4″ and 8″ spiral-wound membrane elements (Brackish, Seawater, and Wastewater).
-
Multi-Element Systems: A dedicated seal is required for every membrane installed in a multi-element pressure vessel.
-
Maintenance & Repair: Essential replacement item if the existing seal has become flattened, brittle, or “gummy” due to chemical cleaning (CIP) cycles.
Key Technical Benefits
-
Pressure-Activated Sealing: The specialized “V-Lip” geometry uses incoming water pressure to expand the seal against the housing wall, creating a tighter bond as system pressure increases.
-
Premium EPDM Construction: Molded from high-tensile, food-grade EPDM rubber that offers superior resistance to stretching, tearing, and chemical degradation.
-
Low Friction Profile: Designed with a smooth exterior surface to allow for easier membrane loading into FRP or Stainless Steel housings.
-
Cross-Brand Compatibility: Precision-fit for all major industrial brands, including Toray, DuPont (FilmTec), Hydranautics, and Vontron.

⚠️ Professional Installation Tip
The “V” Direction Rule: To ensure a proper seal, the open end of the “V” or “U” shape must face the incoming water flow (Upstream). Installing the seal backward will cause it to collapse, allowing unfiltered water to bypass the membrane. Always lubricate the seal with Food-Grade Silicone or Glycerin to prevent “rolling” during membrane insertion.
