He was a proud man with deep respect for the land, the ancestors, and the animals he raised \u2014 goats that walked like they owned the place, and cows that answered only when bribed with mielies.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But lately, Bawo had a problem. His rainwater tank, filled from the corrugated iron roof of his home, was turning his copper taps green and making his goats look at the water like it owed them rent.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAmanzi ayahlanya la!\u201d he shouted one morning, frustrated as his favourite ram snorted and walked away from the trough like a drama queen.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He called his cousin in Cape Town, a big-shot technician who wore glasses even when it wasn\u2019t sunny.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHayi suka, Bawo!\u201d the cousin laughed. \u201cYou need to stabilise that soft rainwater before it eats your pipes\u2026 Use Aquastab.\u201d<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAqua-what?\u201d Bawo asked, suspicious. \u201cIs it medicine for cows?\u201d<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo, bhuti. It\u2019s natural limestone. You just throw it in the water tank. It makes the water less angry.\u201d<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83e\udea8 The Magic Rocks Arrive<br>The next week, a 50kg bag of Aquastab arrived at the spaza by taxi from Cape Town. Bawo opened the sack like it was a treasure chest. Inside: a pile of small white stones.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYho, ndinike amatshe!\u201d he laughed. \u201cThey sent me rocks!\u201d<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Still, he followed the instructions:<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He filled a netted bag with the Aquastab stones<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tied it to a string like a teabag<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And dropped it into the rainwater tank<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cLet\u2019s see if these white people\u2019s rocks can outsmart amaXhosa water,\u201d he mumbled, half-joking.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udca7 One Week Later\u2026<br>The change was unbelievable.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The water tasted smoother<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The taps stopped turning green<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the goats? They drank like it was umqombothi at a wedding!<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His neighbour, uMama Thobeka, came by and asked why his cows looked shinier than hers.<br>Bawo pointed proudly at the tank.<\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAmatshe la asebenzayo.
